華人地區最負盛名的燈光設計家之一，其作品顯現深刻的人文關照、以及對戲劇情緒、音樂脈動與肢體呼吸的精確掌握，為表演內涵提供契合而動人的視覺詮釋。目前擔任台北越界舞團藝術總監，為越界意像豐富的創作風格掌舵，其越界舞台及燈光設計作品包括：《花月正春風…一個不能排練的即興曲》《捉畫》《蛇的練習三種》《騷動的靈魂•天堂鳥》《天國出走》《傳說》《心之安放》《失樂園》《日月流轉》等。

美國耶魯大學戲劇學院設計研究所畢業，曾師事國際劇場大師李名覺、珍妮佛•提普頓等人。自1981年起擔任雲門舞集首席燈光設計，作品包括：《焚松》《家族合唱》《九歌》《紅樓夢》《薪傳》等舞作2001年為雲門舞集《行草》擔任舞台及投影設計。其他重要設計作品包括：優劇場《金剛心》《聽海之心》《海潮音》舞、漢唐樂府《韓熙載夜宴圖》《儷人行》《豔歌行》等。

早期以劇場舞台及燈光設計為主，1991年成立乙太設計顧問公司，致力於劇場空間規劃及建築照明設計，結合劇場藝術的專業使用及創作經驗，對於台灣表演設施的改善及專業度提昇，有重要貢獻。

His designs employ Western aesthetics and modern technology blended with Oriental philosophy, to create a performing space that supports the performers, enriches the content, and is eye-catching to viewers that make him received increasing recognition among the world leading choreographers and other performing artists, among them, marked Ming Cho Lee, Lin Hwai-min, Helen Lai, Lo Man-Fei, Wang Chih-Mei, Lo King Man, Mui Cheuk-Yin, and Tong Kai Fan. He was the Production Consultant for 1996 world premiere of the opera Rashmon at the Graz Opera, Austria. His set and lighting design for Voice of the Ocean by U Theatre received high praise in the Festival d’Avignon 1998. LIN has been the principle designer for acclaimed Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan since 1981. His lighting designs with Cloud Gate include Legacy, Nine Songs, Portrait of the Families and Burning the Juniper Branches. He was the set and projection designer for Cloud Gate’s Cursive in 2001.
