出生於柬埔寨，少年時負笈中國，畢業於暨南大學歷史系。1983年移民澳洲，進入南澳表演藝術中心主修現代舞，展開專業表演生涯。曾任澳洲希尼ONE EXTRA 舞團､澳洲國家當代舞蹈劇院､坎培拉VIS-A-VIS舞團主要舞者。隨團至澳洲各地､紐西蘭､英國､德國､新加坡､馬來西亞､印尼等地演出。1989年並獲選為澳洲最佳男舞者。近年往來於台灣､澳洲､香港及中國等地教學及編舞。

其教學經歷包括澳洲國家舞蹈劇院､廣州實驗現代舞團､北京現代舞團、香港城市當代舞團､香港舞蹈團､以及香港演藝學院､南澳阿德雷德大學舞蹈系､南澳TAFE表演藝術學院､北京舞蹈學院､大慶藝術學院。目前為台北藝術大學舞蹈系專任副教授及雲門舞集和澳洲荷夫曼學院客座教師。

Choreographer, dancer and dance educator based in Adelaide. Zhang was awarded Best Male Dancer of 1989 and received Best Choreography from the Advertiser’s Annual Arts Award for his Forgotten Cod in Australia. His choreography in the theatre production Excavation was featured in the Adelaide Festival in 1996.

Zhang has appeared as a guest artist with Taipei Crossover since 1997 in Chronicle of a Floating City, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Restless Souls, and In the Blooming Time. His debut choreography with the company, EPISODES, world-premiered in Miami, USA in 1998.

Zhang is currently guest teacher for the Center for Performing Arts (Adelaide), Beijing Dance Academy, City Contemporary Dance Company (Hong Kong), University of Adelaide Dance Department, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Taipei National University for the Arts, and Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan.
